How to Apply False Eyelashes
Purchasing and applying false eyelashes can be extremely confusing. Most women have never bought eyelashes, and knowing which ones to pick out might seem impossible. Thankfully, finding the right eyelashes isn't just possible, it's quite simple! This eyelash guide will not only show you how to apply false eyelashes but how to choose the best false eyelashes that will make you feel as beautiful as can be!
There are two basic types of false eyelashes - strip lashes and individual lashes. Strip eyelashes are the easiest to apply for everyday wear. Because individual eyelashes are so challenging to apply they are best left to professionals.
For a natural appearance, our favorite line of strip eyelashes is by Cardani. Although they are the choice line for women with hair loss due to cancer, alopecia, trichotillomania or other conditions, they are also very popular with brides and beauty conscious women because they are so incredibly realistic looking. There are several considerations when learning to wear and apply false eyelashes. We will describe each in detail in this useful guide.
Volume
This refers to the thickness of the eyelash. For a natural look, we recommend low to medium volume eyelashes. High volume lashes are appropriate for the runway or stage performances, but will not provide a natural look for everyday wear. They also tend to make the eyes look smaller.
Length
Refers to the length of the eyelashes. Cardani eyelashes range from 8 mm to 14 mm in length. Anything longer than 14 mm will most likely extend to your eyebrows. This will not provide a natural appearance. Here are the available lengths:
Short: Excellent for men or for women who desire an understated look.
Natural: An excellent choice for women who want a natural look but want a little more definition to their eyes than understated eyelashes would allow. An excellent all around length if you are unsure.
Medium: An excellent choice for women who like a very natural mascara length eyelash.
Long: An excellent choice for women who love long lashes and really want their eyes to stand out. These are also ideal for any woman who wants a glamorous look on a special occasion, or women with large features.
Dramatic: These are eyelashes that extend longer than 14 mm. These are best for costume use and can often make the eyes appear smaller.
Eyelash Styles by Length and Volume
The following chart will guide you in choosing an eyelash style with the appropriate length and volume. The vertical column refers to the length of the eyelash. The horizontal columns refer to the volume or thickness of the eyelashes. Decide what length and volume work best for you and find the intersecting style numbers for your best options.
Color
Color is an important consideration when buying false eyelashes. The "Natural Blend" color is unique to Cardani Eyelashes. Not all styles are made in every color.
Black: The go-to lash, black works for almost anyone and really defines the eye. For women with lighter hair colors, it will present as if you are wearing dark mascara.
Brown: For redheads or women with blonde hair, brown eyelashes can provide a look that is less harsh and more realistic.
Natural Blend: A beautiful blend of black and dark brown hairs that is painstakingly created by hand. This presents a natural appearance because the lighter hairs will catch light reflecting it back into the eyes.
There are seven basic eye shapes: hooded, round, monolid, deep set, close set, wide set, and almond. Just like the same outfit will look different on different body types, the same set of eyelashes will have a different effect on each eye type. To choose the most flattering eyelashes, you must first determine the shape of your eyes.
Almond Shaped Eyes
The space between glamorous almond eyes is equal to the length of one eye, and the lid is visible when the eyes are open.
Deep Set Eyes
Deep set eyes are sunken into the eye socket, creating a shadow above the eye.
Celebrity Examples: Keira Knightly, Jennifer Aniston, and Kate Winslet have amazing deep set eyes.
Round Eyes
The width and height of round eyes are roughly the same, giving a lovely circular appearance.
Celebrity Examples: Christina Ricci, Emmy Rossum, and Rachel McAdams sport gorgeous round eyes.
Hooded Eyes
Hooded eyes are marked by a fold of skin overlapping the socket line.
Celebrity Examples: Nicole Kidman, Jennifer Lawrence, and Blake Lively have stunning hooded eyes.
Close Set Eyes
In this wonderful eye shape, the space between the eyes is smaller than the length of the eye.
Wide Set Eyes
Monolid
This beautiful eyeshape features a continuous lid with no fold along the socket line. It is most in men and women of Asian heritage.
Celebrity Examples: Sandra Oh and Lucy Liu have monolid eyes.
Bottom (Lower) Eyelashes
We have experimented with a variety of lower lashes over the years. We once offered several styles, but our Eyelash #118 was the clear winner. It's very natural looking and looks great on. This bottom lash can also be used to add subtle volume to your top lashes as well.
The thought of applying false eyelashes seems intimidating to many women. The good news is that it's not as hard as it looks. It just takes a little bit of practice to get the hang of it. Cardani False Eyelashes will not only look more natural than drugstore eyelashes, they will also last much longer. For glue, we recommend Secure Hold Eyelash Glue. It comes with a convenient applicator that makes it much easier to apply to the base of the lashes. This gentle but strong eyelash glue is long lasting, latex free, gluten free, cruelty free and vegan.
To apply false eyelashes, follow these 3 simple steps:
1. TRIM EYELASHES
Remove your false eyelashes from their tray. Place each eyelash to your eyelid to determine the appropriate size. If it is too long for your eyes, trim with scissors as necessary.
2. APPLY GLUE
Apply a thin coat of Secure Hold Eyelash Adhesive to the lash band and wait a few seconds for the glue to become "tacky".
3. PRESS IN PLACE
Position eyelash as close as possible to your natural eyelash line. Gently press into place. To cover the lash band, you may wish to apply eye liner. We recommend this Indelible Eye Liner.
REMOVING FALSE EYELASHES
To remove eyelashes, pull gently, starting at the inside corner of your eye. Once removed, Eyelash Adhesive Remover can be used to remove adhesive residue.
Using high quality false eyelashes will ensure the easiest application and the most natural look. For best results, apply foundation and powder before applying your lashes. We also recommend trying our Eyelash Applicator to help make the application process easier. Simply place the strip eyelash on the applicator to hold it in place while you apply glue to the band, then press the lash into your eyelid at the lash line and hold it down for a few seconds before releasing the applicator.
With a little practice, you will be able to apply false eyelashes like an expert in no time!
How to make false lashes look more natural:
Eyelashes with an invisible band, like our #232 Natural Everyday Lashes or #100 Professional Eyelashes will give you the most realistic look because they won't give the appearance of a harsh line at the lash line. Using this type of strip lash when you have your own lashes to blend with will give you a flawless look. If you don't have eyelashes, try choosing false eyelashes that are fuller and feature a thin band like our #201 Natural Layers Eyelash or the #231 True to Life Eyelash.
When applying the lashes, use eyeliner to disguise the lash band or to blend the seam in with your own lashes if you have them. Some people prefer to apply liner first and then apply the lashes, while others like to apply liner over the lash band. Do what works best for you! We love Cardani Indelible Eyeliner because it applies easily and has so many color choices. Applying a quality mascara like Ultimate Volume Mascara over your lashes will also help them blend in with your existing lashes. Always be sure to trim your lashes down to fit your eyelid width. Having your lashes match up precisely with the corners of your eyes will help your false lashes appear more realistic.
How to separate eyelashes:
When wearing false eyelashes with existing eyelashes or when using mascara, sometimes the lashes can clump together. Use a small eyelash comb or one side of a pair of tweezers and gently wiggle the end between areas of the lashes that appear to be clumped together. This should separate the lashes and make them appear fuller.
How to get thicker eyelashes:
Applying mascara over your false lashes will help them appear thicker. We love Cardani Ultimate Volume Mascara. For best results, apply a thick coat of mascara at the base of your lashes by wiggling the mascara wand back and forth and then lightly combing through the length of your lashes.
How to use an eyelash curler:
Using an eyelash curler can help your false eyelashes appear more realistic by giving them a natural shape. The curler can also help blend false lashes with your own lashes if you have them. You want to curl your lashes after applying the false lashes, but before applying mascara. Once you have applied your false lashes, open the lash curler and position your lashes between the two sides of the curler. You want the curler to be positioned close to the eyelid, but not directly on it. Gently press the curler closed and hold for 2-3 seconds. Release the curler to open and remove from lashes. Repeat if necessary. This process should be done slowly and gently, as to not damage the lashes.
How to remove strip eyelashes:
Loosen glue adhesive by soaking a cotton ball or makeup sponge in an oil based cleanser and pressing gently into the area where the lash band is attached. Then, gently pull the strip of eyelashes off of your eyelid starting at the inside corner of your eye. Be sure to hold lashes by the strip and not by the ends of the hairs to avoid damage or breakage.
How to clean false eyelashes:
After removing your lashes, use a cotton swab dipped in eyelash adhesive remover to gently wipe away any glue residue. Do not soak your false lashes in remover, as this can damage the hairs. We recommend Cardani False Eyelash Glue Remover to make removing the residue from your eyelash glue quick and easy. This formula is safe to use and helps to extend the life of your eyelashes.
How to make your false eyelashes last longer:
Using high quality eyelash glue and glue remover will help to ensure that you get the most wear out of your false eyelashes. We recommend using Cardani Secure Hold Glue and Cardani False Eyelash Glue Remover when caring for your false eyelashes.Cleaning your lashes after each use is the best way to extend the life of your eyelashes. For best results, be sure to clean excess glue from your lashes immediately after removing them.
How to remove eyelash glue from your skin:
To remove any stuck on eyelash glue from your eyelid, we recommend using an oil based cleanser or baby oil on a cotton swab to gently remove any residue from your skin.
Common Eyelash Buying Questions
How long do false eyelashes last?
Depending on how well you care for your lashes, most people find that they can wear one pair of high quality human hair lashes (like our Cardani lashes) for 8-10 wears or longer before needing to replace them. Some of our customers even report being able to wear one pair of our human hair lashes for a month or so before replacing! Cleaning your lashes thoroughly after each wear and storing them properly is the key to getting the most longevity out of one pair of lashes. Always store lashes out of direct sunlight and in a cool, dry area and in the original case. If you want to extend the life of your lashes even more, try choosing dark lashes that don't require mascara. Mascara can build up on lashes and make cleaning more difficult and wear down you false lashes quicker.
How long can you wear false eyelashes?
You can typically wear a set of false eyelashes for an entire day before needing to remove, clean and reapply. If the lashes start to lift at the ends after several hours of wear, you can gently dab a small amount of lash glue underneath the end of the lash and press it back into place without removing the entire lash.
