There’s a lot to consider when it comes to choosing the right wig, and a flawless fit is among the most important factors in your decision. Our collection of wigs for small heads ensures that you’ll find a comfortable, secure fit in a style you love. These petite wigs have a smaller cap size, designed specifically for heads between 20.5 and 21.5 inches. To measure your head size simply take a soft tape measure and measure along your hairline or approximately where you hair line would be. Petite Wigs from Headcovers

When choosing a wig, you’ve got a lot of decisions to make. Short or long? Human hair or synthetic? Your natural color, or something brand new? Along with these aesthetic factors, finding a wig that offers you the right fit is an incredibly important part of the shopping process—and that can be challenging if you have a smaller head. Our collection of petite wigs offers all of the styles you love in cap sizes designed especially for small heads, so you can achieve the perfect look with a comfortable fit that feels secure all day.

Do I Need a Petite Wig?

You might suspect that you need a petite wig if you often find hats, headbands, and other accessories seem oversized when you try them on. However, there’s a more definitive way to determine if petite wigs are right for you—measuring your head. To find your head size, use a soft tape measure (the type you might have around the house for sewing projects), and measure the circumference of your head along your hairline or approximately where your hairline would be. If the measurement is between 20.5 and 21.5 inches, you likely need a petite wig. Still not sure about your head size? Take a peek at our guide to wig buying, or chat with one of our consultants, who are always on hand to offer expert advice.

How Do I Know If My Wig Is Too Large?

If your wig slips around your head when you are wearing it or if it has puckers or folds when you have it on, these are all signs that your wig is too large. You can try adjusting the tabs or straps that are located inside the base of your wig to adjust the fit. If you have tightened the tabs or straps all the way and the wig still slides or has puckers, it's likely that the wig size you have chosen is too large for your head. This means that you will either need to have your wig professionally adjusted for sizing or you will need to purchase a wig in a smaller size.

Petite Wigs for Cancer Patients

At Headcovers, we’ve proudly served cancer patients for more than 20 years. We know firsthand how difficult it can be to experience hair loss, and how amazing it can feel when you find a wig that gives you back the hairstyle you love. If you’ve experienced hair loss due to cancer treatment or other conditions like alopecia, selecting the right wig quickly becomes a top priority. Our petite styles ensure that your wig will fit securely and comfortably while looking natural for your head size, so you can feel confident—and worry free—every time you wear it.

Which Wig Is Best for You?

Once you’ve determined that you need a petite wig, it’s time to choose your style and color. While you might lean toward a familiar style in your natural color, purchasing a wig also provides a great opportunity to try out a new look—or even a few!

Our wigs for small heads come in dozens of shades; it can feel really daunting to find a match for your natural hair or choose a different color that will still flatter your skin tone. Luckily, we have lots of ways to help you decide! You can send us a hair swatch or reference photo, chat with one of our experts, purchase a color ring to see all of your options, or simply use a wig you already own as a starting point. You might even try a combination of these techniques to make sure your color is exactly right.

After you’ve decided on a color, determine the perfect style by learning about your face shape. There are seven basic face shapes, each one suited to different haircuts—here’s how to find yours.

Finally, you might narrow down your search by starting with a brand you trust. Ellen Wille and Louis Ferre offer extensive options for petite wigs, and we’ll always love the classic look of a Raquel Welch wig.

Caring for Petite Wigs

Once you’ve found the perfect petite wig, you want to make sure it lasts as long as possible. That means a good care routine is key. With regular wear, most wigs last for 6 months on average. Start by wearing a wig cap, which will keep your wig cleaner and extend its lifespan. When it is time to wash your wig, follow our care tips for natural and synthetic hair to make sure you’re using the right techniques and products. The most important thing is to be gentle with your wig; avoid harsh cleansers and heat, choose brushes and combs designed for wig styling, and never use hair dye on your wig.
